Technology…Sounds great, doesn’t it? Useful, Futuristic, helpful and many other “encouraging” words to describe it. However, the frustrations over buffering, loading, frozen screens and technological difficulties cause way more problems than the old fashioned pencil does. Students already carry enough stress on their shoulders, why add the stress of a computer. In the time it takes to get a computer functioning, students could have started writing half of their introduction already. We are always told that “screens are bad for you” and we should “live in the real world, not a virtual one” yet technology is placed on the stationary list and we expected sit in front of it every class. Students are relying on technology to do every task from writing up notes to writing essays. Even though proof has shown writing notes with a simple pen and paper has way more positive results for memorization than typing on a computer. Writing is a task and to be better, we must have practice. If we are constantly typing on a computer we lose the ability to write. How are we then expected to walk into an exam and expected to work a muscle in which has not been used?
